A

Application Integration

This is an integration framework composed of collection of technologies and services which uses the software and computer systems architectural principles to integrate a set of applications across the enterprise.

BPO / BPO Services / Business Process Outsourcing

This refers to ‘Outsource IT services’ (in terms of IT personnel either stationed to client locations or offshore) which we provide to our valuable client. The objective is to make our clients focus on their core business operations while leaving all IT/communication related techno functional matters to our highly skilled personnel. Clients do not need to worry about their non-core support functions as we maintain these areas with innovative technologies, provide greater flexibility, and higher efficiency at low cost.

Cloud-based Applications

We design Cloud based applications which provide computation, software, data access, and storage services. This is a relatively new but popular delivery model for IT services based on internet protocol.

Maplin experts ensure the essence of this service by increasing an enterprise IT capacity and adding capabilities without making client to invest in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software.

Commerce

Commerce is the exchange of something of value between two entities. That “something” may be goods, services, information, money, or anything else the two entities consider to have value. In terms of the World Wide Web, commerce is achieved electronically, in a process called e-commerce.

Content

“Content” refers to the text, images, product information, etc., that a website contains. It also refers to the elements of HTML code that describe those items.

Compliance

It means conforming to a rule or regulation, such as a code, standard, policy, or law.

Maplin has a consolidated compliance control procedures in place to ensure the operational transparency. We strive to comply with every legal requirement, laws, rules and regulations of respective territories/countries where we operate. Maplin employees are individually responsible to know the national/local laws that apply to the territory they work. If an employee has any doubt, do seek your manager advice at earliest.

A database is an information set organized for flexible searching and utilization.

Decommissioning

It is a formal process to withdraw some equipment/installation from active service.

Maplin offers unique decommissioning services for telecommunication and associated industry sector.

Deregulations

Deregulation is the removal or simplification of rules or regulations. This does not mean elimination of laws but eliminating or reducing government control of how business is done, thereby moving toward a more free market.

Maplin Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit monitor such deregulations by the different countries and local authorities where we operate and convey such changes to respective operational departments.

Disruptive Technology

Disruptive technology means any innovation helps to create a new market/network of technology which eventually goes on to disrupt an existing technology. The term is used in business and technology to demonstrate innovations that improve a product or service in ways that the market does not expect.

E-Commerce or Electronic Commerce

E-commerce or Electronic commerce is the buying, selling, marketing, and servicing of products or services over computer networks. This is a conduct of business commercials and management through electronic methods, such as electronic data interchange and automated data collection systems.

Encryption

Encryption is a process of transforming information using an algorithm to make it unreadable to anyone except those possessing special knowledge. It is widely used to protect data in transit, for example data being transferred via networks e.g. the Internet, e-commerce, mobile telephones, wireless systems, Bluetooth devices and bank automatic teller machines.

ERP Application

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integrates internal and external information across an entire group. Such applications cover finance, accounting, sales, services, ordering etc. and help to predict company growth.

HTML

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is a language designed for creating web pages. HTML is now an Internet standard maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). HTML generally appears in text files stored on computers connected to the World Wide Web.

This means to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information from unauthorized access, disclosure, disruption, recording, hacking or destruction.

Maplin, not only design, test and commission Information Security Systems for range of organisations including banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, airlines, real estate, publishing and media etc. but also outsource team of highly skilled and certified information security engineers to ensure client’s business confidentiality and integrity.

Information Security Management System (ISMS)

This means that an organization should design, implement and maintain a coherent set of policies, processes and systems to manage risks to its information assets, thus ensuring acceptable levels of information security risk.

Intranet

Intranet is an access restricted network used internally within the Maplin group. Typically the term refers to an internal website.

Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access is a database management system from Microsoft, packaged with Office which combines the “Jet” relational database engine with a graphical interface.

Network

This refers to a collection of computers and devices interconnected by communications channels (either wire or wireless) which facilitate communications and allow sharing of resources and information among interconnected devices.

Non-core Operations

All supporting functions of a business which are to be paid in a company’s overhead/non-productive operational activity are called Non-core operations.

Maplin outsource highly skilled, certified and trained resources to delegate the non-core IT operations of other organisation such as banks, insurance companies, education etc.

PHP (originally “Personal Home Page Tools”, but now a recursive acronym for “PHP Hypertext Preprocessor”) is a widely used open-source programming language used primarily for server-side applications, to develop web content.

Process Standardization

This is to streamline internal or external business/work process with same basic features.

Process standardization in any organization can lead to its operational excellence if efficiently designed and optimized to the company’s objectives. However, standardization of internal business processes is a complex job. It may have many benefits if used properly, or can be harmful if poorly designed or managed.

Regulatory

This is an administrative act introduced by the state/government or local legislative bodies. These acts are created in the public interest instead of advances the commercial or special interests by any industry sector.

R&D Techniques

Research and development refers to “creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of man, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications”; (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development).

Maplin has established research, development and knowledge sharing centres. We have dedicated teams of scientists, engineers and IT professionals and will continue to expand our resources. These R&D teams develop, commission, test and introduce innovative techniques through our licensed Knowledge Sharing Centres.

Risk Management

This is method of identification, assessment, prioritization of risks associated with any work/process. Risks may involve economic, control, resources, legal liability, credit, accident or any other uncertain failures.

To avoid these uncertainties, ‘Risks Assessment, Reporting and Recommendations’, is a key document which needs to be developed and closely monitored in all kind of Maplin Projects.

Secured Process

This is a protocol designed to be with an added layer of security.

Maplin design such process where needed e.g. credit or debit card online transactions. Such services are greatly involved in banking, insurance and other financial sector.

Secured Level

In addition to the core security, different security levels are normally designed to meet specific rigorous requirements of the project. Different software and hardware devices are designed to ensure such levels. Minimum length PIN limitations, anti-hacking protection, specific encryption key generation and handling are the common examples.

TCP/IP

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol model is the descriptive framework for computer network protocols. TCP/IP is sometimes called the Internet Model. These are used for a variety of different types of communication services between computers.

Uploading

“Uploading” is another way of describing the transfer of local files (files stored on your computer) to a server connected to the Internet. It usually involves utilizing the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
